From the Admissions Director - Happy Spring! We are still accepting applications from both residential and day candidates for the 2008-2009 academic year. Please contact me if you'd like to discuss the application process or set up a visit to see the facilities. Berkshire Hills Music Academy offers a unique, music-infused curriculum which includes a full range of life skills, social skills, functional academics and independent living experiences for individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Our focus on musical training and the development of a student’s musical passion sets us apart from similar programs – each of our students receives voice and/or instrumental lessons, the opportunity to participate in a variety of musical ensembles, music appreciation and theory classes, and works in a unique fieldwork program which provides vocational training for both performance and music in human services careers. We are located in the culturally vibrant Five College area of Western Massachusetts, and our students form friendships with peer-aged students from Mount Holyoke College, the University of Massachusetts and other local institutions through established volunteer programs such as Best Buddies. The active arts scene here provides abundant opportunities for attending concerts, visiting museums and joining with local community music and theater groups to learn and perform. Our campus is set on a lovely and scenic 40-acre estate, and our facilities include a gracious dormitory, classrooms, rehearsal and performance spaces plus recording and practice studios. BHMA is a very joyful place, because it’s filled with people doing what they love most in a close community that’s completely supportive. Let me know if you have any questions about this packet, and feel free to contact me to set up a visit if you’d like to see our program in action. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions about our admissions process or about other aspects of preparing for BHMA. I would be delighted to speak with you!
