August 12, 2015
BHMA was well represented at the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles with 7 graduates on stage during the “Family Picnic” festivities on July 28th.
Entertainment at the special picnic for 5000 Olympic families was sponsored by the Academy of Country Music and included a concert by country star Hunter Hayes.
Halfway through his show, Hunter invited 10 young adults with Williams syndrome who are former ACM Lifting Lives Campers to join him on stage. The campers performed an original song called Heart to Heart, accompanied by Hunter (on lead guitar) and his band. Included in the group of 10 young adults were BHMA LIVE member, Ben Monkaba and alumni, Ashley Kohlun, Kelley Sue Martin, Tyler Poole, Lucas Wahl, Bret Fleming and Brendan LeMieux. Ben, Tyler, Ashley and Brendan were among the group of campers who co-wrote and recorded the song with Nashville singer-songwriter, Terry McBride (Play Something Country by Brooks & Dunn & many other Top 10 hits on the country charts).
