On October 2, 2015, friends, family, and fans of the Berkshire Hills Music Academy community gathered to celebrate its 15th anniversary. This Fanfare-themed event attracted over 250 guests; many familiar faces as well as new friends of the Academy dined and danced at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston to commemorate a decade and a half of excellence in music, life skills, and vocation programming for young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Guests placed their bids on a number of exciting silent auction items and purchased raffle boxes from the impressive Lux Bond and Green display while mingling during the social hour. Attendee Adam Weiner won a saxophone donated by special guest, Charles Neville, and graciously donated it to BHMA's music department. Solo performances by our talented musicians ushered in the main program and dinner which featured a video presentation and addresses from Board Chair and founder, Kay Bernon, Executive Director, Michelle Theroux and BHMA student, Ani Petithory. The room filled with cheers and applause when the name of the new performance center was revealed-- groundbreaking for the Bernon Music Center is set for Spring 2016! Following dinner, raffle boxes were delivered to each table for a grand opening; Troupe vocalist Jeremy Swartz' aunt was delighted to find a set of rare saphire earrings enclosed in the jewelery box she had selected. The Troupe then performed a spirited set alongside Charles Neville, before party-goers were invited to an after party featuring music by DJ Dante of Chicago.
The event was an enormous success. We are grateful to have reached the $800,000 fundraising goal while establishing new relationships and strengthening existing ones. We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to share our unique program and raise awareness of students' abilities. BHMA would like to again thank those who attended and sponsored this incredible event for their generosity and for their belief in our mission and our purpose. We look forward to many more years of using music to help young adults with intellectual disabilities develop skills for communication, independence, and employment!
